Some of you know my son is autistic, and in many ways he was the spark behind Boy Banned. Not because I based the character on him, but because of moments I recognised while writing.

There’s a scene where one of the main characters hates the stage outfit he’s forced to wear—itchy, uncomfortable, completely wrong—and it hit me that I was drawing on the kind of sensory overwhelm my son experiences.

And in Texas Family, Max’s love of Thomas & Friends and the way he gets overwhelmed by the noise of everyday life came from that same place—again, quietly inspired by Matt.

Neurodiverse love hits different—and that’s exactly why we need more of it in MM Romance.

From quiet routines to intense focus, from sensory overwhelm to fierce loyalty, the neurodivergent characters I write are real people in stories where love isn’t “fixed”—it’s understood.

Because everyone deserves a love story that sees them exactly as they are. 🌈
